Sarah Mayorga is an associate professor of sociology and faculty in the Latin American and Latino Studies program at Brandeis University. She previously held positions at the University of Cincinnati and the University of Massachusetts Boston. Sarah earned her MA and PhD in sociology at Duke University after attending Providence College, where she earned her BA in sociology and a minor in Black studies. Sarah is a qualitative sociologist who studies racial inequality, urban neighborhoods, and Latinx migration. Her first book, Behind the White Picket Fence: Power and Privilege in a Multiethnic Neighborhood (UNC Press, 2015), won the Distinguished Contribution to Research Book Award from the American Sociological Association’s Latina/o Sociology section. In her newest book project, she analyzes the experiences of residents from two working-class neighborhoods to understand how processes of racial capitalism shape life in Cincinnati, Ohio.
