Leping Wang

PhD Student, Department of Sociology, Boston University

Leping Wang is currently a third-year PhD student from the Department of Sociology. She holds a Master of Arts in Applied Quantitative Research from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Xiamen University in China. She is interested in leveraging statistical modeling and mixed methods to explore empirical problems regarding social inequality and stratification in education, race and ethnicity, and health contexts, and to examine how the intersectionality of race and gender shapes the process and outcome of inequality. She is currently working on a project where she proposes a “Merit-Fit-Diversity” framework to examine how inequality is manifested in the junior faculty hiring process, where she found the distinct institutional contexts across private and public institutions significantly shape the priorities and strategies of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiative. In another ongoing project, she and her co-author Dr. Jonathan Mijs examine the demographic profiles of blatant and cultural racists, non-racists, and ambivalent racists across the U.S. and the Netherlands, and uncovers how racial beliefs are related to beliefs about inequality.
