Emily Handsman

Emily Handsman is currently a Harvard College Fellow in Sociology and will be a postdoctoral research associate at the Annenberg Center for School Reform at Brown University beginning in July 2023. Her research, which lies at the intersection of the sociology of education, inequality, culture, and organizations, focuses on how schools and school districts conceptualize racial equity and then actualize their equity goals. Her current book project looks at how three suburban school districts planned and implemented diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives between 2019-2022. Her work has appeared in Qualitative Sociology and Sociology of Education.
