Nicole Smythe-Johnson is a writer, educator and curator from Kingston, Jamaica. She is currently Assistant Professor of art history and African American & Black diaspora studies at Boston University. Most recently, she curated “If we are here…” at the Visual Art Center at UT Austin (Sept 2023 to Matrch 2024). She was also on the curatorial team of the 2022 Kingston Biennial and John Dunkley: Neither Day nor Night (2017-2018), which travelled to the Perez Art Museum Miami, the Folk Art Museum in New York City, and the National Gallery of Jamaica. She has published work in a variety of periodicals and books, including Terremoto, Small Axe and the forthcoming anthology Beyond Boundaries: Seeing Art History from the Caribbean (Yale University Press, 2025).
