Black2BU’25 Recap
On Sept. 26th, over 100 AABDS alumni, staff, and current students came together for an evening of music, food, and conversation. Celebrated concurrently with the 50th anniversary of the class of 1975, students were able to have the opportunity to sit down with recent grads, alumni and professors to make meaningful connections.
Attendees were also able to get an inside scoop of Professor Austin’s upcoming new Black History Project! BU’s Alumni Development and the Black Alumni Leadership Council are getting support from AABDS to advance BU’s Black History Project (BHP), to document and honor BU Black Alum, their experiences while at BU, and their legacies on and off campus. Professor Paula Austin has been a member of the steering committee and this academic year she, along with research support from Mary Snyder, PhD student in American Studies, and Kaylah Morilus, MA student in AABDS, is launching the BHP’s oral history component. Professor Austin and Mary Snyder were at Black2BU with the QR code for the form through which Black alum can sign up to participate.
To top it all off, President Melissa Gilliam was able to make a brief visit to our event and spoke with numerous alumni, faculty, students, and staff.
We’re thrilled that so many in the AABDS community were able to connect with both their alumni classes and current students.
Couldn’t make it to this year’s celebration? No worries! Keep an eye on our calendar and newsletter for upcoming events!
