Academic Load
College of Communication Policy
COM students with an approved academic level of sophomore or junior who are in good academic standing may overload up to 20 units in the fall or spring terms.
COM students with an approved academic level of sophomore or junior who are in good academic standing and have an overall GPA below a 3.0 will be charged for any units above 18.
COM students with an approved academic level of sophomore or junior who are in good academic standing and have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher will not be charged up to 20 units.
COM students with an approved academic level of senior can overload up to 20 units without additional charge, regardless of overall GPA.
COM first-year students and first-term external transfer students are not allowed to overload above 18 units.
COM students who are also in Kilachand Honors College are able to overload up to 20 units without being charged extra.
For summer term, undergraduate students who wish to overload more than 20 units total, or more than 10 units in either Summer Session 1 or Summer Session 2, should speak with COM Undergraduate Affairs.
Graduate students must check with their departments to make sure they qualify to overload beyond 18 units.
