• SED SE 505: An Introduction to Severe Disabilities
  Student acquire and demonstrate their understanding of the etiology of various severe disabilities, historical background, current service delivery models, and issues and trends in the education of individuals with severe disabilities. Prereq: SE 504 or permission. 2 cr.
• SED SE 507: Early Childhood Disabilities/Severe Disabilities: Assessment and Instructional Planning
  Designed to develop knowledge and skills related to goal-setting, instructional planning, implementation, and evaluation of students with early childhood and severe disabilities. Emphasis on collaboration and cross- cultural competence. Prereq: SE 504/505. 4 cr.
• SED SE 508: Early Childhood Disabilities/Severe Disabilities: Curriculum and Methods
  Designed to develop knowledge and skills to design curricular content and instructional methods for students with early childhood and severe disabilities. Includes evidence-based strategies in the following areas: communication, motor, sensory, self-care, social, academic, transition, assistive technology, and special health care needs. Prereq: SE 507. 4 cr.
• SED SE 510: Special Education: Curriculum and Instruction
  Designed to develop an understanding of the historical background and legal framework of special education, various disabilities (etiology, diagnostic criteria and process, and learner characteristics), and instructional practices and behavioral support strategies. For elementary and secondary content area teachers. 2 cr.
• SED SE 512: Special Education: Students with Disabilities and the Law
  Students will develop an understanding of the core concepts of United States public policy related to the provision of special education and related services to students with disabilities. Focus on historical context and legal precedent. Prereq: SE 250 or SE 706. 4cr.
• SED SE 515: Assessment in Special Education: Procedures
  Designed to develop knowledge and skills related to the assessment of students who are in or being referred to special education. Specific competencies include selecting instruments, administering, scoring, interpreting, and reporting findings. Prereq: SE 250 and LR 503. 2 cr.
• SED SE 533: The Families of Children with Special Needs
  Examines the nature of families and how families evolve with the presence of a child with a disability. Students will develop an understanding of family systems theory and evidence-based approaches to collaborating with families of children with disabilities. 4 cr.
• SED SE 534: Classroom and Behavior Management
  Designed to develop an understanding of strategies for effective?behavioral support?of students with/without disabilities. Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) will be used as the framework for school- wide, classroom, and individualized approaches to provide positive and preventative supports. Prereq: SE 250 or SE 706. 2cr.
• SED SE 535: Understanding Autism
  Students will describe the defining characteristics, school experiences, and evidence- based practices for teaching and supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The course includes perspectives from individuals with ASD and their families. 2 cr.
• SED SE 536: Assessment and Instruction of Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  Students will develop knowledge and skills in assessment and instruction of students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Assessment practices including screening, diagnosis, and school-based progress monitoring of students with ASD. Instructional practices emphasize research-based interventions and participation in general education. Prereq: SE 535. 4 cr.
• SED SE 537: Assistive Technology
  Learners will examine legislation related to assistive technology; develop knowledge of AT for reading, writing, computer access, communication, daily living skills, and environmental control that address needs of students with various forms of disabilities; apply a systematic, collaborative framework to guide the AT selection process.
• SED SE 580: Methods and Materials in Special Education: General
  Students will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to design, implement and evaluate individualized educational program for students with mild/moderate disabilities, Prek-8. Prereq: Only open to matriculated students who have completed prerequisites. 4 cr.
• SED SE 584: Methods and Materials: Moderate Disabilities, 5-12
  Students will acquire the necessary knowledge and skill to design, implement, and evaluate individualized educational programs for students with moderate disabilities, grades 5-12, including transition planning and college/career readiness. Only open to matriculated students who have completed prerequisites. Prereq: SE 706. 4 cr.
• SED SE 593: Practicum/Practicum Equivalent:Students with Moderate Disabilities, Pre-K-8
  Students will demonstrate skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction for students with mild/moderate disabilities, PreK-8. Student teaching experience (300-hour minimum) and accompanying seminar. Only open to matriculated students who have completed prerequisites. 8 cr.
• SED SE 594: Practicum/Practicum Equivalent: Students with Moderate Disabilities, 5-12
  Students will demonstrate skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction for students with mild/moderate disabilities, grades 5-12. Student teaching experience (300- hour minimum) and accompanying seminar. Only open to matriculated students who have completed prerequisites. 8 cr.
• SED SE 595: Practicum/Practicum Equivalent: Student with Severe Disabilities, Pre-K-12
  Students will demonstrate skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction for students with severe disabilities, ages 3-21. Student teaching experience (300-hour minimum) and accompanying seminar. Only open to matriculated students who have completed prerequisites. 8 cr.
• SED SE 596: Practicum with Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  Students will demonstrate skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction for students with autism spectrum disorders. Student teaching experience (150 hour minimum) and accompanying seminar. Only open to matriculated students who have completed prerequisites. 4 cr.
• SED SE 597: Practicum for Teaching Professionals-Moderate Prek - 8
  Students will demonstrate skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction for students with moderate disabilities, grades PreK-8. Designed for practitioners. Student teaching experience (300-hour minimum) and accompanying seminar. Only open to matriculated students who have completed prerequisites. 4 cr.
• SED SE 598: Practicum for Teaching Professionals-Moderate 5-12
  Students will demonstrate skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction for students with moderate disabilities, grades 5-12. Designed for practitioners. Student teaching experience (300-hour minimum) and accompanying seminar. Only open to matriculated students who have completed prerequisites. 4 cr.
• SED SE 601: Parent and Professional Collaboration
  Designed to develop an understanding of the importance of collaboration with parents and professionals when working with children with disabilities. Focus on effective collaborative strategies, co-teaching models, service delivery models, and cultural responsiveness. 2cr.
