  • HUB CC 122: Cocurricular: Gender, Identity, and Education
    Students draw on readings, personal reflection, and group discussion to explore the impact of gender on educational opportunities, experiences, and outcomes in the United States. Classroom practices, school rituals, expectations for behavior and disciplinary actions, social organizations, and extra-curricular choices are examined. In addition, students consider the ways gender intersects with race, class, and sexual orientation to shape students' identities.   • HUB CC 123: Cocurricular: How Very Queer: Who Am I Really?!
    Students analyze conceptions of gender, sexuality, and culture, reflecting on their own beliefs as well as societal, cultural, and familial perceptions and behaviors. Students engage in respectful collaboration while exploring their views of the GLBTQ community, first at a global and national level, and then within the context of Boston and Boston University. Students explore the history of the GLBTQ community and research local community resources to develop a deeper understanding of the community and themselves.   • HUB CC 125: Cocurricular: Global House: Building Diverse Communities I
    Students create an intentional community with other students interested in foreign cultures and languages and collectively navigate the diversity of communities in our world. Students learn teamwork, mutual responsibility, and how to collaborate on cultural activities while practicing respectful interaction with people of many backgrounds. To be eligible, students must plan to live in Global House for one year. As the first semester of a yearlong cocurricular experience, HUB CC 125 is a prerequisite for HUB CC 126 and does not carry a BU Hub unit.

  • HUB CC 130: Cocurricular: Life's Big Questions: Exploring Jewish Identities in Community
    Students deepen their understanding of Judaism's diversity through exploration of Jewish civilization. Students build community on campus and in Boston, engaging with people from diverse backgrounds whose ideas about Judaism may differ. Students participate in discussions, attend BU and community events, engage with readings about Jewish community and identity, and create a reflective ePortfolio. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in the BU Hillel Cohort Learning Class.   • HUB CC 135: Cocurricular: Global House: Exploring Cultures & Languages I
    Student language learners and native speakers collaboratively explore what it means to speak another language and live in another culture. Students develop sensitivity to intercultural differences while engaging in immersive language learning, intercultural communication, and cross-cultural community. To be eligible, students must plan to live in Global House for one year. As the first semester of a yearlong cocurricular experience, HUB CC 135 is a prerequisite for HUB CC 136 and does not carry a BU Hub unit.

  • HUB CC 140: Cocurricular: Introduction to Sports Marketing & School Spirit
    Students will learn about teamwork by exploring athletics marketing and enhancing Terrier Pride at Boston University. Students will be immersed in project-based learning, case- based learning, and experiential learning while navigating how to collaborate within an organization and identify necessary skills for achieving both individual and collective ambitions. As part of this experience, students will develop and execute a game-day marketing plan for a BU Athletics team or a campus-focused promotion.   • HUB CC 141: Cocurricular: Bloom Family Leadership Academy: High-Performing Individuals & Teams I
    Students learn to identify, practice, and apply skills necessary for the development of high-performing teams. Topics include being an effective teammate; role-identification and identity; team culture; and how to add value to high-performing teams. To be eligible, students must have significant, yearlong involvement with a sports team at Boston University. As the first semester of a yearlong cocurricular experience, HUB CC 141 is a prerequisite for HUB CC 142 and does not carry a BU Hub unit.

  • HUB CC 142: Cocurricular: Bloom Family Leadership Academy: High-Performing Individuals & Teams II
    Students learn to identify, practice, and apply skills necessary for the development of high-performing teams. Topics include being an effective teammate; role-identification and identity; team culture; and how to add value to high-performing teams. To be eligible, students must have significant, yearlong involvement with a sports team at Boston University. Students must have taken HUB CC 141 as a prerequisite for HUB CC 142.   • HUB CC 150: Cocurricular: Collegiate Leadership Competition
    Students explore leadership theory through discussion of leadership concepts and develop leadership skills by working as a team on problem-solving challenges. Students learn to identify the characteristics of high-performing teams while developing their own leadership styles. As part of the experience, students compete in the Collegiate Leadership Competition in Portland, ME. Students must apply to participate through the CAS Office of Student Programs & Leadership.   • HUB CC 160: Cocurricular: The Common Thread Podcast
    Students collaborate as a team to conceptualize, research, and create podcast episodes for the Howard Thurman Center's The Common Thread Podcast. Through this process, participants identify, engage in, and reflect on team dynamics and hone cooperative team skills. Episodes cover myriad subjects with thought leaders, faculty, and artists in Boston and beyond.   • HUB CC 161: Cocurricular: Starting a Startup: Discovering and Validating Innovative Ideas
    Students explore the innovation pathway process and apply the tools embedded in this process towards creating a product or service. Students can apply these tools to a non- profit or for-profit venture, or to an idea they would like to explore. Students identify a market need, conduct customer interviews and market research, propose a solution, pitch and refine the idea, present their product or service, and reflect on the creation process.   • HUB CC 162: Cocurricular: Innovation for Social Impact: Applying the Design Thinking Process Towards Social Challenges
    This cocurricular experience allows students to investigate social challenges and develop impactful solutions. Through activities, discussions, readings, and reflections, students explore creativity and innovation methods, examine individual and collective behavior, and engage with diverse communities. Students also complete a capstone project in which they draft a design challenge, apply the design thinking process, and set personal and project goals. In addition, students assess personal and institutional factors that support or inhibit creativity.   • HUB CC 180: Cocurricular: Living History: Discovering, Processing, and Curating Archives in the Gotlieb Center
    Students explore the rich resources of the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center and make discoveries in the archives. Through activities, discussion, and reflection, students evaluate archival materials, assess their condition, gather information related to their content and context, and present the materials in an online exhibition. Students learn how to gather and analyze information and interpret their findings to a broader community.   • HUB CC 181: Cocurricular: The Core Docent Program I
    The Core Docent Program allows students to explore and share their understanding of how works at the Museum of Fine Arts and other Boston museums engage with the texts studied in CAS CC 101 and CAS CC 102. Core Docents learn to look, reflect, interpret, organize, design, and articulate visual art by participating in, assisting with and finally designing and leading guided tours for Core students and other selected populations. As the first semester of a year-long cocurricular experience, HUB CC 181 is a prerequisite for HUB CC 182 and does not carry a BU Hub unit.

  • HUB CC 192: Cocurricular: Collegiate Publishing Workshop: The Journal of the Core Curriculum
    In this hands-on publishing experience, students produce The Journal of the Core Curriculum--the annual anthology of the Core Curriculum--while reflecting on how social and professional aspects of publishing mediate the relationship between individuals and communities. Students must have taken at least one Core Curriculum course as a prerequisite for HUB CC 192.   • HUB CC 230: Cocurricular: Religion and Identity Through the Lens of Israel
    Students travel to Israel to examine the historical narratives of major Western religions and to explore their personal connections to them. Students visit sites across Israel and immerse themselves in various religious, ethnic, and cultural groups. Students reflect on their personal journeys in oral and written formats, using the lens of Israel to compare their experiences and beliefs. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a BU Hillel-led trip to Israel.   • HUB CC 280: Cocurricular: Building a Research Community
    This cocurricular experience is designed to complement and enrich a student's UROP research experience by providing opportunities to foster interdisciplinary discourse with other researchers about the ethical, moral, cultural, and political effects of research on society. Students critically analyze and reflect upon their own research and consider what is means to be a contributing member of a research community. To be eligible, students must have participated in the summer UROP program.
