SED BI 504: Seminar: The Student-Teaching Experience--Bilingual (English as a Second Language) and Modern Foreign Language
Taken while student-teaching in English as a Second Language (ESL) or Modern Foreign Language licensure programs. Focuses on theoretical and methodological issues in bilingual and second language instruction. 2nd semester includes strategies for immersion classrooms. 2 cr. -
SED BI 515: Methods in Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language (ESL)
Planning and implementing effective assessment and instruction in language, literacy, and the content areas in elementary bilingual and English as a second language classrooms. Presents sheltered and content-based teaching strategies. Students develop an integrated curricular unit and participate in a field experience at the elementary level. Course is restricted to students in ESL licensure programs. 4 cr. -
SED BI 530: ENG Lang Dev
Focus on theory/research/effective instructional practices in literacy instruction and assessment of bilingual students. Examines the relationships among oral language, reading, writing, and content-area learning. Examines literacy skill development in first and second languages. Course is limited to MAT students in the ESL Add-on Pathway. Prereq: TL 525. 2 cr. -

SED BI 620: Educational Issues in Bilingualism
Examines the theoretical, educational and political issues related to school aged students who speak a language other than the language of the school. ?Focuses on understanding of the processes of language and literacy development among children and adolescents who use more than one language in their daily lives and how their bilingualism affects their educational opportunities. Examines national and international theory, research, policy, and practice. 4 cr.
