  • SED RS 751: Program Evaluation
    Alternative approaches to evaluation; consideration of stakeholders; specification of multiple outcomes; program monitoring; formative and summative designs; practical guidelines for planning, conducting, reporting, and using evaluations; role of the evaluator; necessary skills; political, ethical, and interpersonal aspects. Applicable to curricular interventions, training programs, social action projects, social policies. Case studies and student proposals are critiqued in seminar.     Designed for advanced doctoral students who are analyzing and/or interpreting qualitative data to work with other students under the direction of a faculty member. Students in the course will give presentations of their ongoing work, which will be subject to feedback form the entire semester. 4 cr.

  • SED SC 375: Exploring Science Teaching: A Practical Experience
    Students will explore science teaching through observation of secondary school science classrooms and, where possible, through participation in the classroom instruction. Readings discussed in seminar will prepare students to interact in the classroom and to prepare lesson plans. 2 cr.

    This course emphasizes the practical applications of instructional strategies and teaching skills presented in science methods I. It emphasizes the pedagogical content knowledge in the respective disciplines as they are being practiced in the student teaching practicum. 4 cr.
  • SED SC 575: Introduction to Science Education

  • SED SC 576: Science Teaching Pre-Practicum
    Pre-service teachers will participate in a pre-practicum experience in local schools where they will have the opportunity to study and practice science teaching methods addressed in SC570: Science Teaching Methods. 2 cr.

    Designed to develop observational skills regarding students with severe disabilities and the settings in which they learn in this pre-practicum fieldwork experience and accompanying seminar. ?They also learn to analyze students' learning profiles. 50 hours of fieldwork plus seminar. Prereq: SE 250. 2 cr.
  • SED SE 316: Fieldwork in Special Education: Severe Disabilities
    Through a second pre-practicum fieldwork experience and accompanying seminar, students further develop observational skills regarding students with severe disabilities, and demonstrate their ability to collect data and plan and implement instruction. 50 hours of fieldwork plus seminar. Prereq: SE 315. 2 cr.
  • SED SE 401: Special Education: Cognition and Learning
    Designed to develop an understanding of the various theories of learning that have informed the development of instructional strategies that are used with students with disabilities. Prereq: SE 250. 4 cr.
