Topics include Revolutionary republicanism, evangelical theology and democratic theory, Transcendentalism and Romantic culture, antislavery and nationality, Victorian realism, liberal Protestantism and Darwinism, and evolutionary social science. This course cannot be taken for credit in addition to the course with the same title that was previously numbered GRS HI 873.
