  1. Eleanor Steber commissioned the Barber work that Serge Koussevitzky (I met Olga Koussevitzky way over 40 years ago) premiered in 1948. Elgar recorded his “Enigma” Variations back in 1924 known at that time as “the acoustical era.” Later again in the “electrical era” of 1926. I believe it is the first recording that members of the Royal Family attended sitting with full scores in their hands.
