Saturday busiest single day in BU history
Saturday was a day for the record books. Nearly 2,900 students moved into their BU dorms, “the busiest single day we’ve ever done,” according to Marc Robillard, executive director of housing and dining.
Over the course of six days, Boston University welcomed 11,500 new and returning students to the Charles River Campus. The week’s sunny skies and moderate temperatures helped this year’s move-in go smoothly.
Roughly 1,000 freshmen, a quarter of the Class of 2015, arrived last Monday to volunteer in the First-Year Student Outreach Project, where they spend a week doing community service in and around Boston. About the same number came on Wednesday to attend the last wave of summer orientation sessions. By Friday, more than half the class was on campus.
“We wanted all the freshmen here for Matriculation on Sunday,” says Robillard.
A record 425 upperclassmen, faculty, and staff volunteers (otherwise known as the Scarlet Squad) greeted freshmen and helped them move into dorms.+ Comments
