Six urban oases you can walk to

Click on the slide show above for a virtual tour of the parks near BU.

At an urban university like BU, the urge to exchange concrete for a patch of grass or a piece of shade sometimes becomes irresistible. Fortunately, the area is home to a number of leafy havens within an easy walk of Commonwealth Avenue, from ‘beaches’ along the river to unexpected neighborhood parks and even a nearby pond. If you want to read in the grass, take a contemplative stroll, try to catch a glimpse of a blue heron or a turtle, or just sprawl out and soak up the sun away from the city’s busy traffic, you don’t have far to go.
