If you are interested in holding an event for your class, organization or friend group you can choose one of our Workshop Options below and email us with date/time options at epicinfo@bu.edu.

Events require completion of the Safety Quiz and are limited to BU community members.

Workshop Options
  1. Laser Cutter: Keychains
    • This 1.5 Hour class provides an introduction to the EPILOG laser cutter. Topics include setup and operation of the machine for cutting and engraving. This class is great for people who have not visited EPIC before and want to learn more about what the space offers. Max of 20 guests.
  2. Thermoforming: Chocolate Molds
    • This 1.5 Hour class provides an introduction to the Formec thermoformer. Topics include setup and operation of the thermoformer, pattern making and a discussion of plastic types. Guests will each make their own set of reusable chocolate molds and cast chocolate. Max of 5 guests.
  3. Sewing: Zipper Bag
    • This 2 Hour class provides an introduction to the Janome sewing machines. Topics include setup and operation of the sewing machine, measuring and using rotary cutters for fabric, installing a zipper, attaching interfacing and an applique. Guests will follow our instruction guide to sew the zipper pouch. Max of 5 guests.
  4. 3DP & Sewing: Pumpkin Plush
    • This 2 Hour class provides an introduction to Bambu Lab 3D Printers and the Janome sewing machines. Topics include the Bambu Studio software, First-In Cart 3D Printers, setup and operation of the sewing machines. Guests will follow our instruction guide to sew the plush and cinch it together with a 3D Printed stem. Max of 5 guests.
  5. Sewing & Laser Cutter: Tote Bag
    • This 3 Hour class provides an introduction to the EPILOG Laser cutters and the Janome sewing machines. Topics include setup and operation of the laser cutter and sewing machines, measuring and using rotary cutters for fabric, attaching interfacing and fastener options. Guests will follow our instruction guide to sew a custom engraved denim tote and choose their method of fastening the handles. Max of 5 guests.
  6. Soldering
    • This 2.5 Hour class covers soldering. Topics include reading electronic schematics and drawings, identifying common electronic components, how to solder surface mount and thru-hole. Guests will make an LED sign that displays a custom message when oscillated. Max of 8 guests.
  7. TIG Welding
    • This 1.5 Hour class provides an introduction to the Miller TIG welders. Topics include setup of the machine and welding techniques. Guests will practice welding mild carbon still with filler. Max of 8 guests.
  8. AUTODESK FusionCAM
    • This 1.5 Hour class provides an introduction to the AUTODESK CAM software. Topics include an overview of the work environment, saving to the cloud, connecting to Solidworks, importing files, establishing work coordinate system, tool libraries, defining tools, toolpaths, simulations, setup sheets and g-code.
  9. Manual Mill 1
    • This 3 Hour class provides an introduction to the Bridgeport manual mill. Topics include the mill’s components, safety, mounting workpieces, selecting cutting tools, setting speeds and feeds, use of the digital readout, performing simple milling operations, reading engineering drawings and principles of material removal. Max of 8 guests.
  10. Manual Lathe 1
    • This 3 Hour class provides an introduction to the manual lathe. Topics include the lathe’s components, safety, mounting workpieces, selecting cutting tools, setting speeds and feeds, use of the digital readout, performing simple turning operations, reading engineering drawings and principles of material removal. Max of 8 guests.
  11. Manual Lathe 2
    • This 2.5 Hour class covers more advanced topics on the manual lathe. Guests will perform an exercise that utilizes internal and external micrometers to craft components within 1/1000ths of an inch. Prerequisite for this workshop is Manual Lathe 1 or equivalent experience. Max of 4 guests.
  12. Wire EDM
    • This 2 Hour class provides an introduction to the Fanuc Robocut Wire EDM. Topics include the technology, interface, fixturing and cutting simple parts. Max of 6 guests.
