I came to Washington DC. with no expectations at all. I am a senior studying Finance and I technically had all the credits to graduate a semester early. More

Four Places in 31 Minutes

Spring 2016
The walk from the classroom building on Massachusetts Ave to the Debonair on 24th street is approximately 31 minutes long, and although that can seem quite dreadful after a long day at your internship followed by a roughly three hour class, you’d be surprised how many hidden gems you can find along the way.
1. Bethesda Bagels
Located about about 10 minutes away from the classroom building, Bethesda Bagels is the perfect place for breakfast right before class (disclaimer: BUDC does at times provide free lunch during the internship course, but you need to splurge on this at least once while you’re here). At Bethesda Bagels, you can order pretty much whatever your heart desires. From 23 different types of homemade bagels with over 18 spread options, Bethesda Bagels is the best place for breakfast or lunch. More

Spring 2016
One of the realities BUDC students quickly notice is how difficult it can be to cook for themselves. When you’re working 30 hours and taking classes three nights a week, it can be difficult to find time to cook. In addition, you will also want to explore all of the great cuisine that DC offers. However, you will eventually have to start cooking for yourself, especially if your budget is limited. Below are some easy meals that you can cook for yourself. More

When it comes to eating healthy while balancing a fully-packed schedule, preparation is the key to success!
Interning in DC during the day and taking classes at night doesn’t leave a lot of free time throughout the week. As we work against the clocks trying to fit everything in, we use what wiggle room we have, between activities, for meals. As a result, we tend to opt for the quickest and easiest options for food, which may not always be in the best interest of our health nor our bank accounts. Working in Dupont, I’ve been fortunate to have an easy commute from work to class and many great food options along the way; Sweetgreen and Beefsteak are definitely favorites! More

The Washington, DC Internship Program is an intensive and exciting experience. Having a hectic schedule while also balancing a budget makes it difficult to maintain a workout regimen, but students at the Deb have come together to stay fit! Each week a bunch of us get together after classes, roll out our mats, put on some music and workout. More

Thanksgiving: One More Time
Haiyun Jiang
Fall 2015
Wind the clock back to Nov.26, 2014; I was invited by a friend’s family in Vermont to spend my first Thanksgiving in the U.S. One day before I arrived, Vermont started snowing heavily. The haze and “White out” blocked the view of outside of the house, making indoors reassuring.
Food, American tradition: a huge turkey baked for 5 hours; pecan pie decorated by cranberry source; smashed potato. It has been a year, yet the scent and flavor of the incredible Thanksgiving meal still vividly exists in my memory. More

4 Great Vegetarian Options in DC

- Tono Sushi, Woodley Park
If you’re anything like me, changing from an omnivorous to a vegetarian diet was made particularly difficult by that simple preparation of raw fish and rice called sushi. And while I have grown to love sweet potato rolls and vegetable tempura, every now and then I crave something a little more fun on my plate - a craving perfectly satisfied by Tono Sushi’s spicy crunchy tofu roll. If the name doesn’t give it away, this maki roll is a blend of spicy mayo, protein-packed tofu, and tempura flakes. More

Fall 2015
College students, and especially those of us in the BUDC program are always on the go which means that we don’t have much time to cook for ourselves, hence late-night Ramen packets and ordering Dominos at our low points (we’ve all been there). Ordering out and eating processed foods is never as satisfying as a home cooked meal, not to mention it’s absolutely terrible for you which is why I am the biggest advocate for using a crockpot. This foolproof pot of magic does all of the work for you, and it’s a perfect way to put together meals for the week while you’re tackling homework on Sundays. More

Where to Eat From Sunrise to Sunset in DC
By Tyler Grove
Fall 2015
Washington DC can be overwhelming with all of the different options for food. From local favorites such as Ben’s Chili Bowl to fine dining such as Le Diplomate, it can be hard to settle on just one restaurant. To make your decisions easier, here are a few of my favorite restaurants to eat at for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Enjoy!
Breakfast: Ted’s Bulletin
My favorite meal is breakfast, so it is hard for me to ever pass up the chance to go to Ted’s Bulletin. With a lively atmosphere, incredible wait staff and mouth watering breakfast options, I can promise you will never leave hungry. Ted’s is most known for its homemade pop tarts. The pop tart flavors range from blueberry cheesecake to salted caramel, so you do not want to miss the opportunity to try one of these delectable treats!
