Party Like an Intern: The Guide to Navigating a Work Party

Congratulations! You were either cool enough or office policy says so, either way you scored an invite to the office party as an intern. Yay you! Here are some tips to remaining the cool intern.

  1. If you are 21+ and do enjoy a drink…by all means, have one. This will help make things less awkward overall and could definitely be a good opportunity to bond with coworkers.

  1. On that note…don’t drink too much. Sure, have a few drinks but it is best to cap it at two or three depending on your limit. Know your limits.

  1. Leave before the party is over. People will remember you were at the party but leaving early-ish will ensure you don’t embarrass yourself and you aren’t the intern who overstayed their welcome.
  1. Stay away from karaoke. Often office parties involve karaoke – just don’t do it.
  1. Use this time to network and build a relationship. Make sure yo expand your social circle beyond who you regularly talk to at work.

Use these rules to help navigate this potentially awkward and embarrassing social event as an intern.
