Fall 2016 leave of absence or withdrawal

Students considering a Fall 2016 leave or withdrawal should speak with a USC staff member before the end of the semester.  It is important to discuss options and implications in the spring, and the best timeline for finalizing a decision and updating records before August 1.   In addition to the regular drop in hours offered in the second half of April, we will offer expanded drop in hours during the May study break and finals period.  Check back on May 1 for a listing of the expanded drop in times.

Special drop-in hours for week of April 11th

The deadline to arrange a Spring 2016 leave of absence or University withdrawal is Wednesday, April 13th at 5 p.m.  The USC is offering additional drop-in hours the week of April 11th in order to best assist students who need to finalize paperwork by the University deadline.  Inquiries regarding Spring 2016 leaves and withdrawals will be prioritized during these special drop-in hours.

Monday, April 11th 9 - 10:30 a.m. 2 - 3:30 p.m.
Tuesday, April 12th 9 - 10:30 a.m. 2 - 3:30 p.m.
Wednesday, April 13th 9 - 10:30 a.m. 2 - 3:30 p.m.

The regular USC drop-in schedule (Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, 9-10:30 a.m.) will resume beginning April 14th.

Leave of absence/withdrawals after holiday housing closure – Spring 2018

Students who arrange a spring leave of absence or withdrawal after December 22 should move out of their on-campus residences within 48 hours.  Apartment style residences, including 25 Buick Street and 33 Harry Agganis Way are open during Intersession; dormitory style residences are closed between December 22 and January 11 so students must plan their move out between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, January 12, when dormitory residences re-open.

Intersession closure – 5 p.m. 12/22/17

Boston University will be closed for Intersession beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2017 and will re-open on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2018.  If you contact us during Intersession, we will receive your message and respond after we re-open on Tuesday the 2nd.

Undergraduate students wishing to take a leave of absence or withdraw for the Spring 2018 semester should contact us promptly when we re-open from Intersession so we can help you with all necessary steps.  If you have previously discussed your plans with a USC Associate Director and just need to complete the required paperwork to finalize your decision, you may click here to access the Spring 2018 Leave of Absence / Withdrawal Request Form.  Please note that in order to access the form you will need to enter your BU login and Kerberos password.

Updated hours for Spring 2016 leaves or withdrawals

Due to the increase in office traffic as the semester winds to a close, we will be assisting students with Spring 2016 leaves of absence and withdrawals on a drop-in basis during business days between the hours of 9 and 10:30 a.m. and 2 and 3:30 p.m. on Monday, December 14 through Wednesday, December 23.  If your inquiry is less time-sensitive, we suggest contacting us by phone to arrange an appointment.

Fall 2015 Leave of Absence/Withdrawal Deadline – 12/1

Undergraduate students wishing to take a leave of absence or withdraw for the Fall 2015 semester must do so prior to the semester deadline of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1.  Students with on-campus housing assignments must also complete residence check-out and return of keys within 48 hours upon arranging the leave/withdrawal.  If you are considering a Fall 2015 semester leave of absence or withdrawal and have not already spoken to an associate director, please review the information available on our website and then contact the office before Thanksgiving Break, so that we can discuss your plans and assist you with the necessary paperwork.

Due to the increase in office traffic surrounding the December 1st deadline, we will assist students with Fall 2015 leaves of absences and withdrawals following the Thanksgiving Break on a drop-in basis on Monday, November 30 and Tuesday, December 1, between the hours of 9 and 11 a.m. and 2 and 4:00 p.m.
