International Advisory Board
The International Advisory Board of Boston University is a consultative body, comprised of distinguished University alumni and friends, whose goals are to elevate the international presence of Boston University by developing and implementing a global strategy that engages and raises support for the University from international alumni, parents, friends, corporations, and governments.
International Advisory Board (IAB) members advise the University leadership and the Board of Trustees on issues involving, but not limited to, the University’s global strategy in education and research and its implementation, strategies for engaging global alumni and parents, and opportunities for generating philanthropic and other support for the University’s mission.
Members of the IAB are elected by the Board of Trustees to serve terms of two years. Terms are renewable in the discretion of the Trustees subject to a limit of ten consecutive years of service; International Advisors may be re-elected after a one-year absence. Generally, the IAB should have between 10 to 20 members who represent the global diversity of the University’s alumni and friends.
A Chair and a Vice Chair of the IAB are elected annually by the Board of Trustees; to strengthen ties between both groups, a member of the Board of Trustees will generally serve as the IAB Chair. The leadership liaison to the IAB will be the President of the University.
The International Advisory Board meets twice each year. The IAB may meet independently, either in the United States or at an international site, or upon invitation may meet in conjunction with the Board of Trustees. In addition to IAB members, guests may be invited both to enrich the meeting and to engage prospective members. As integral members of the University community, IAB members will be invited to important University events, meetings, lectures, exhibits, concerts and University-wide functions.
