Funding & Scholarships

Merit scholarships to our MFA in Literary Translation are available.

  • All admitted domestic and international applicants are considered for scholarship of up to 50% of full-time tuition and will be notified of the scholarship offer in the admission letter.
  • Students applying to work in Chinese are eligible for additional funding from the Han Suyin Graduate Scholarship Fund.
  • Scholarships are available from the Susan Jackson Fund for students interested in working on French language translations.
  • The Boston University Center on Forced Displacement offers graduate fellowships to a maximum of two MFA students interested in translating literature associated with forced displacement, a framework that includes irregular migration, human trafficking, forced immobility, and statelessness. To be considered, students must commit to doing a capstone project (your final translation project in the program) related to those themes. The fellowship totals $27,318 and supports living expenses during your year in Boston. CFD fellows will plan one event connected to their work at the intersections of literary translation and displacement/migration during their time at BU. Fellows will also be expected to share their work in courses and workshops sponsored by CFD (no more than two guest lectures or workshop presentations each semester) and to support the initiatives and projects of the Center on Forced Displacement. If this opportunity interests you, please write a one-page statement describing the project you have in mind and send it to Program Director Keith Vincent (kvincent@bu.edu).
