World Premiere of Zabel in Exile at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre

The world premiere of Zabel in Exile, by R.N. Sandberg, a memory play about real-life Armenian activist and writer Zabel Yessayan, is Boston Playwrights’ Theatre’s latest production. Set in 1937, near the end of her life, Yessayan is imprisoned in Soviet Armenia, facing a death sentence. She reflects on moments from her life, from childhood illnesses to the Armenian genocide. Grace Experience (from left) plays Arsha, Sarah Corey is Zabel Yessayan, and June Baboian is Digeen Dussap in a scene from the play, running through March 8. Photo by Scornavacca Photography
