Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Terriers CARE Team?

Terriers CARE Team is a multidisciplinary team that assesses and responds to reports of concerning behavior to ensure the safety and well-being of the individual and the campus community.

What types of behaviors should I share with the team?

Behaviors that may indicate a student or employee is in distress, struggling with mental health, exhibiting disruptive or threatening behavior, or showing signs of potential harm to self or others. When in doubt, report.

How do I submit a referral?

Reports can be submitted on our Share a Concern page using the online report form. You may also contact the team directly via email or phone.

What happens after I share a referral?

The Team reviews the information, assesses risk through the use of a research-based rubric, and determines appropriate next steps. This may include outreach, support services, referrals, or monitoring. If additional information is needed, someone from the Team may reach out to you. To learn more, please visit our Process page.

Will I be informed about what happens after I make a referral?

While you may receive a follow-up confirming receipt of the report, due to privacy laws (e.g., FERPA), detailed outcomes may not be shared. However, your concerns are taken seriously and are followed up appropriately.

Can I share a referral anonymously?

Yes, although providing your name allows the team to ask clarifying questions, and may improve the effectiveness of the response. Anonymous reports will be reviewed to the extent possible.

What if I’m not sure whether the behavior is serious enough to refer?

You don’t need to determine the level of seriousness. If you notice behavior that feels “off,” disruptive, or concerning, report it. The Team is trained to assess and determine appropriate next steps.

Is reporting to Terriers CARE Team punitive for the student or employee?

No. The goal is early intervention, support, and risk mitigation—not discipline. However, if policy violations are identified, appropriate referrals may be made.

How is Terriers CARE different from campus security or counseling services?

Terriers CARE serves as a coordinating body that collaborates with campus security, counseling, student affairs, and other departments. It does not replace these services but brings them together to create a unified response.

How is information shared and protected?

Terriers CARE operates under strict confidentiality guidelines and complies with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable privacy laws. Information is only shared on a need-to-know basis.

Who serves on the Terriers CARE team?

The team typically includes representatives from student affairs, counseling services, academic affairs, campus safety, disability services, and other relevant departments. Learn more on our Team page.

How can I schedule a Terriers CARE presentation for my department or team?

You can request a presentation via our contact form. The presentation provides an overview of the Terriers CARE, how to report concerns, and how the team supports the campus.
