Council Recommendations
As part of our mission to “Provide feedback on University policies and procedures that impact staff or workplace culture“, the council has been working on the following items.
Recommendations Submitted
Creation of Election Leave Policy
On August 8, 2024 the Staff Advisory Council submitted a memo recommending the creation of an election leave policy to the VP of HR and President of BU. Given the importance of voting in today’s society, the BU-SAC felt this is an important benefit that can be provided to BU staff.

Expanded Sympathy Leave Policy
On September 25, 2024 the Staff Advisory Council submitted a memo recommending changes be made to the sympathy leave policy to the VP or HR, the BU policy committee, and the President of BU. The proposed updates aim to provide increased flexibility and inclusivity for BU staff by expanding the number of paid days off from three to five and broadening the definition of family. These changes would not only allow for additional travel time and accommodate multi-day services but also better align BU’s policy with peer institutions and acknowledge the diverse family structures present within the BU community.
