Committees
Community & Collaboration
The Community and Collaboration Committee works to enhance the professional growth, connectedness, and overall experience of Boston University staff. The committee coordinates opportunities for professional development, networking, and involvement through events, programs, and partnerships.
Through our advocacy efforts we aim to create a workplace where each employee can feel comfortable, trusted, valued, and empowered in their work. As we work to advocate for compensation increases, research has shown that strong recognition programs can improve workplace culture and employee retention. During the Fall ’23 semester, our committee conducted a large-scale assessment of existing recognition programs across Boston University’s academic and administrative units to identify best practices. We are excited to present our Recognition Toolkit which compiles best practices in recognition across our campus! We recommend that not only managers, but all staff review the Toolkit and evaluate how they can better recognize the contributions of their colleagues!
We also recognize the importance of first impressions and have collaborated closely with HR’s Talent Recruitment Services team to implement improvements to the onboarding and integration practices at the University. Particularly by reinstituting in-person opportunities for new employees to connect with each other and with campus resources. We have centered equity in our work by advocating for additional resources to be available for staff who may lack the technological resources to complete the hiring process and expanding the languages that onboarding resources are offered in. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with HR on improving workplace culture.

The Awards committee is a standing committee that is responsible for identifying, planning, and executing awards that are sponsored by the Council, recognizing key BU staff across the University. We are pleased to present our inaugural series of Staff Recognition Awards in Spring 2026. More information can be found here.
