Project Overview

SFSF_logo_RGB_300What is Strong Families Strong Forces?

We are a program funded by the Department of Defense (DoD) in recognition of the special strains and challenges young children and their parent(s) in military families may experience throughout the deployment lifecycle, with special attention to reintegration.

The program is a four year research study designed to develop and evaluate a home-based program to support military families with young children (birth to 5 years old) during the deployment lifecycle.  The program recognizes the particular needs and developmental challenges that arise when parenting young children.

This program is being designed in collaboration with families and military and civilian service providers to ensure that the program is relevant and responsive to the realities of young children in military families who have experienced deployment.

This program is open to all branches of the military as long as a parent has been deployed to OEF/OIF.  Your family’s participation in this program is completely confidential.

Boston University School of Social Work has received a four-year grant from the U.S. Department of Defense for this program.
