SPDY — Google’s Experimental Protocol for a Faster Web

Wednesday January 20, 2010, 3:00 pm in MCS 135

As part of Google’s “Let’s make the web faster” initiative, we are experimenting with custom protocols to help reduce the latency of web pages. SPDY (pronounced “SPeeDY”) is a drop in replacement for HTTP which allows multiplexed requests, prioritization and more compressed data.  Come and learn how SPDY behaves in our initial test runs, and what our plans are going forward.

Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to attend. Informal discussion with Google personnel about career opportunities at Google will follow (Pizza will be served).

Bio: Chris Bentzel is an engineer at Google’s Cambridge office where he’s contributed to numerous projects in the networking infrastructure focus area.
