Theodore Hickman-Maynard
Rev. Dr. Teddy Hickman-Maynard is a native of Boston, MA. He received his bachelor’s degree in 2000 from Harvard University with a concentration in Afro-American Studies, after which he attended Boston University School of Theology where he earned the Master of Divinity degree in 2003.
Teddy is an ordained minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and has served for almost twenty years as a youth pastor, minister to men, minister of music, senior pastor, and director of programs for a faith-based non-profit organization. Teddy is currently the co-pastor of Bethel AME Church in Bridgeport, CT, where he shares senior pastor responsibilities equally with his wife, the Rev. Bernadette Hickman-Maynard. Bernadette and Teddy also share the joy of raising their daughter, Jeremiah, and their two sons, Justice and Zion.
In May 2015, Teddy completed the Ph.D. in Practical Theology at the School of the Theology. His dissertation title was: “Joyful Noise: The Ecclesiological and Evangelistic Significance of Racial Diversity and Religious Pluralism in the Experiences of Historically Black Collegiate Gospel Choirs on Three Majority-White University Campuses in Greater Boston.” As Visiting Assistant Professor of Evangelism and Church Renewal, Teddy will pursue his interest in postmodern socio-cultural analysis and its implications for ecclesiology, evangelism, and pastoral leadership.
