Exceptional Books

Here are locations, topics, and results lecture exams and final exam in this course.

Please note:

All calculations are to be done by hand and so please remember that no calculational aids (calculators, PDA's, portable PC's, slide rules, etc.) and no cell phones are allowed in the exam rooms. Please also do your exam in non-erasable black or blue ink; exams done in pencil or in erasable ink will not be accepted for regrading. Please use only the exam paper provided. Scrap paper may not be used. No books or notes are allowed in the exam rooms. Points will be deducted for answers reported to an incorrect number of significant figures and if proper units are not used throughout each calculation. A periodic table, physical constants, major formulas, and representative values of base 10 logarithms will be provided as appropriate.

Lecture exam 1, Monday, September 26, 2005. The exam is based on all lecture, lab, and discussion material through the Friday before the exam, and on all of chapter 1 (including problems and Web Companion) of the textbook. You may not use your molecular model kit on this exam.

Quantum concepts pretest, Monday, October 3, 2005. This pretest will assess your current understanding of quantum concepts. Subsequent posttests after lab lecture workshop 4 and computer labs 6, 7, and 8 will be referenced to the results of this pretest. No prepartion is necessary for this pretest.
