Managing Multiple Client’s Social Media: Tips and Tricks

By Erika Grossi, Account Supervisor

It’s no secret that social media is a huge part of public relations. When multiple clients come to us asking for daily social media posts, it can get extremely overwhelming and sometimes confusing. After browsing multiple tips and tricks blog posts and articles, I’ve compiled a list of the best practices on managing multiple client’s social media accounts.

Tips on how to effectively manage multiple client’s social media accounts:

  • Develop content strategies:
When meeting with a new or existing client, set aside time to discuss what type of content the client wants to be posted. Figure out what works best for the client’s brand and incorporate that into what they’re asking for. Discuss social media themes, what type of images or videos to post, and how long or short captions should be. Finding the time within meetings to discuss strategy with your client will help you develop content calendars in the future.

  • Create content calendars:
After discussing what kind of content your client is expecting and what makes the most sense for their brand, start to develop a content calendar to schedule each post throughout the week. Content calendars can be easily created using a spreadsheet in Excel, Google Sheets, or even on sites like Trello. Content calendars are a simpler way to organize posts for each day and access them easily. Make sure to date each post and specify which social media channel each post is going to, and include a caption.

  • Create a hashtag list:
If your client uses Twitter or Instagram accounts, hashtags are crucial to achieving maximum post likes and engagement. Creating a hashtag list can speed up the process of having to continuously retype the same general hashtags on each post or remembering which hashtags you used. Keeping a list of hashtags in a document also allows you to highlight or star which hashtags received the most attention or increased likes, and enables easy access to share your hashtag ideas with your client.

  • Keep track of engagement:
At times it can be challenging to manage engagement for one account, let alone five or six different accounts. Using tools such as Hootsuite can help you effectively check each account and reply to comments, retweets or wall posts. It can also be helpful to track engagement or insights using Google Analytics for all accounts.

  • Organize client content:
Just as organization is key to everything we do, it’s especially important to keep each client’s social media content in different folders. Whether it be a desktop folder or a Google drive folder, make sure all content is separated and put in its designated space. Each folder should contain individual folders for content calendars, login information, previous content calendars, and images used for posts. Having designated folders for each client will make it easier to find what you need when you need it.

  • Use a scheduling app or website:
Apps and websites like Sproutsocial and Hootsuite are extremely helpful when it comes to scheduling Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Linkedin posts to post. These apps allow you to choose a specific date and time to post selected content without you having to go on each social media channel and account to post them yourself. Using a scheduling app or website is key to managing multiple accounts. It gives you the time to continue creating content calendars, checking engagement, and go about your day without having to manually post every hour.

While it is challenging to manage social media accounts for multiple clients, using the above tips and tricks will ensure you do so with success. It may not always be easy, but it is definitely always worth it.
