Vol. 44 No. 1 1977 - page 111

The editors of Partisan Review wish to repudiate certain
statements made by Robert Boyers in his article "A Case Against
Feminist Criticism" which appeared in Volume XLIII , #4. Referring
to Joan Mellen 's book , WOMEN AND THEIR SEXUALITY IN THE
NEW FILM, the article states "each page contains errors and
misleading statements." This statement by Mr. Boyers is of course
untrue on its face. The article then goes on to refer to "deliberate
falsifications," which are said to be contained in the book and
purports. to give examples. The examples given are in no sense
"deliberate falsifications," and the editors do not believe that
anything else in the book would justify such a statement.
Mr. Boyers is of course free to express his critical judgment of
Ms. Mellen's book and Ms. Mellen's views. Our repudiation has to
do with the statements quoted above, and we regret their appear–
ance in Partisan Review.
