Microsoft OneDrive

NOTICE:
Beginning April 22, 2025, a storage quota will be put into place for all OneDrive accounts.

  • Faculty and Staff: 250 GB
  • Affiliates and Research: 150 GB

If you exceed this amount, please make space by deleting unneeded items or moving items to other storage options. Please contact us with questions or concerns.

Microsoft OneDrive offers personal cloud storage to BU employees through BU’s Microsoft 365 License agreement. Students do not have access to this storage option but instead may use Google Drive for their cloud storage needs.

With Microsoft OneDrive you will have:

  • 1 TB of storage space
  • Access through your web browser, your desktop, and mobile devices
  • Sharing features for people inside and outside BU
  • Version history for reviewing and restoring previous save points

Frequently Asked Questions

What am I allowed to save in my OneDrive?

The Microsoft OneDrive storage option is authorized to hold HIPAA, Restricted Use, and Confidential & Internal Data. The files that are stored on the Microsoft OneDrive should be related to your work at BU.

What is the difference between my BU OneDrive and my OneDrive from home?

OneDrive has multiple versions; the consumer version is known simply as OneDrive, and commercial versions are known as OneDrive for Business.

Learn more about accessing both on the OneDrive Desktop App page.

When should I use OneDrive instead of other storage solutions like SharePoint?

Use your Microsoft OneDrive storage when you are saving your own work and want to be able to selectively share access. Use SharePoint when saving files needed by your whole department and must persist after you leave BU.
