Mount a Network Drive
NOTE: You must be connected to the BU VPN if you are located off-campus.
Before starting, make sure that you have the full network path to connect to the drive.
- Windows Example: \\ad.bu.edu\met\example_folder
- Mac Example: smb://ad.bu.edu/met/example_folder
Windows
- Open File Explorer, then click on This PC in the left-hand navigation.
- Access the “Map Network Drive” dialogue box.
- Windows 10: Click on Map Network Drive button under the “Computer” tab.
- Windows 11: Click on More … > Map Network Drive in the ribbon.
- Fill out the fields in the new window as follows:
- Drive: Select a letter to represent the drive
- Folder: Enter the full network path to the drive
- Reconnect at sign-in: Enabled
- Connect using different credentials:
- Disable for BU-provisioned devices
- Enable for personal devices
- If prompted, login using your BU credentials.
Mac
- Open Finder, then bring up the “Connect to Server” menu.
- Press Command + K
- Click Go > Connect to Server from the Menu Bar
- Under “Server Address”, enter the full network path to the drive, then click Connect.
- If prompted, login using your BU credentials.
- In the menu bar, click on the Apple icon, then click on System Preferences > Users & Groups.
- Under your account, click on the Login items tab.
- Click on the Plus icon at the bottom of the list, find the network drive, and then click Add.
