MET IT provides major support for all BU-provisioned laptops for faculty and staff.


Support Policy

MET IT is responsible for the following:

  • Set up of new laptops with employees
  • Providing and tracking loaner laptops and chargers for employees
  • Upgrade BU-provisioned laptops on a 4-year cycle
  • Installation and configuration of software on BU-provisioned laptops
  • Troubleshooting and repairing BU-provisioned laptops

NOTE: MET IT doesn’t repair out-of-warranty devices.

Service Details

Entitlement

Each full-time employee is limited to one Windows laptop based on BU standards.
MET Virtual Desktop is available for all MET employees (full-time, part-time, temp, students working remotely).

MacBook Pro

Not standard due to cost and security constraints.
Allowed only as an approved exception with justification via our request form.

Loaner Laptops and Chargers

MET IT has a small collection of loaner laptops and chargers for our employees. Employees can request loaner devices for the following circumstances:

  • For a class, meeting, or event
  • For a device forgotten at home
  • For business trips
  • For temporary use during repairs

MET IT will provide loaner laptops to clients who require repairs on their main laptop.

Replacement

Employee laptops are replaced every 4 years (unless otherwise noted).
Departmental machines and other devices are replaced as needed.

Personal Devices

MET IT does not support personal devices or unauthorized purchases.

Security and Disposal

All MET-managed systems must meet BU security standards.
Equipment must be returned on the day it is replaced or retired.
Users may purchase old laptops at 50% of the current market value.
MET IT securely removes all data and BU-provided software before sale, reuse or disposal.
