Integration Technology
SCORM represents a set of standards and protocols to combine heterogeneous tools developed by different vendors into a unified and integrated learning platform. This interface-focused architecture reconciles the desire to use best-of-breed capabilities with the efficiencies of tool standardization. We believe that this drive towards integration, from SCORM shared content to learning-activity providers enabled by evolving Tin Can (Experience API) specifications, represents the best approach to creating the future learning infrastructures. Recently announced XBlock integration architecture, introduced by EdX group, is the latest development in defining the future educational ecosystem.
The advantage for instructors is that much of the overhead in the evaluation of student progress can be eliminated through direct integration with the Learning Management System.
The advantage for students is a rich learning environment with immediate feedback on their interaction, allowing them to move more quickly through material they understand and cautioning them to spend more time in areas that are less clear.
