BU Research on Aging
Interdisciplinary research, multidisciplinary storytelling.
Challenge
Boston University is home to world-class researchers studying how we age, and their work takes place across disciplines—in economics, sociology, social work, neurology, and more. Our job was to spotlight their diverse insights on this singular topic, elevating BU’s interdisciplinary academic work and its impact on real lives.
Solution
We developed Aging Reimagined, a multi-article series for The Brink that highlights the diverse research happening at BU on aging, longevity, and quality of life. Through deep collaboration across editorial, design, photography, video, audio, PR, and social media teams, we built a dynamic, multimedia storytelling package that goes beyond conventional feature writing.
The series mixed in-depth features with short profiles, first-person essays, and bite-sized articles, crafting stories that feel personal and universal. Each piece was tailored by writers, designers, videographers, and photographers to include creative storytelling techniques like audio clips, video, and interactive visuals.
With original reporting and interviews of 23 faculty and alumni by our Editorial team, a unified visual language across web, print, and digital media from the designers, as well as an integrated PR and social media strategy, Aging Reimagined became a resource—and a conversation-starter.
The series sparked new connections across the University and caught the attention of Massachusetts policymakers, including the chair of the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Elder Affairs. Three of the series’ stories ranked among BU’s most-read research articles at the time of publication, and social media posts reached over 2.5 million viewers.
