Internship Resources
Utilize all resources available to you to makes your applications shine
You wouldn’t hand in an academic paper that’s not well-planned and thoroughly proofread, right?
So use that same care when applying for internships!
- Utilize the Internship Hunt Handbook! We’ll share this handbook with you early in the process. It has templates and examples for your cover letters and resume, as well as advice on interviewing, writing thank you notes, and accepting offers.
- Make an appointment at COM Career Services–or if you’re not in COM, the Center for Career Development–to go over your resume and cover letter in-person. For students with limited experience with job/internship applications, you might need multiple appointments to get your documents in good shape.
The Where and the How
So now you’ve got a great one-page resume and a compelling typo-free model of your cover letter. Where do you find internship openings and how do you apply?
- Your best source of internship prospects will come directly from BULA. Internship leads, primarily from companies that we are in direct contact with, will be posted on Blackboard. Read through all the listings carefully and then begin applying as quickly as possible. In most cases, you will apply directly to the listed contact via email. You will attach your resume (PDF only) and include your cover letter text as the body of the email message.
- There is often a short window of time when companies are actively considering applicants, and you don’t want to miss that window. Even though we have great relationships with these companies, they’ll receive plenty of other applications, so be sure to put in the work to apply quickly and diligently.
- Stay in communication with BULA. We will post updated internship leads as we receive them, but it’s important that we know where and when you’re applying.
- You are not limited to our contacts. Use any family/friend connections you have, apply directly to large companies (e.g. Disney, NBCUniversal, Viacom, etc.) through their web application portals, and search for internships on your own, using a variety of online resources, including Entertainment Careers, Hollylist, LinkedIn, UTA Job List, and Indeed.
- When using non-BU resources, please let BULA staff know where you’re applying, and do not accept an internship without first checking with a staff member.
- Check the Internship Timeline for other important dates and information.
