The Basics

What do you need to know?

Kpop bands are put together by entertainment companies. Some of the entertainment companies are:

  1. SM Entertainment
  2. YG Entertainment
  3. JYP Entertainment
  4. BigHut Entertainment
  5. Pledis Entertainment

If a person wants to be in a band, the person must go to an audition into the company. Although some people have gotten scouted by the companies. Which means that the company saw the person and offered them an audition. Examples of people being scouted are Kim Seokjin from BTS, Jung Eun-ji from APink, and Oh Sehun from EXO.
Once a person has gotten into they will sign a contract with the company and now the person is a trainee (a person in training to become an idol). As a trainee, will will train by taking singing, dancing, and acting lessons. The trainee will also have to take some language classes. Trainees also recieve homework to do daily and if they don't do it they get left behind by their company. The life as a trainee is known to be a difficult one with the tight schedules as a result of this some give up on their dreams to become a kpop idol. The average training period for a trainee is 2 to 4 years. After training for a while there's a chance that the trainee may debut. However not all trainees debut.

The Roles in a Band

In a band there are different roles that each member has. A member of a band can have more than one role. These are the most common roles to see in a group.

In general, the same rules apply to the dancers and rappers of the groupp with the main being more talented.
