Partnerships power the Clean Energy and Environment Legacy Transition (CELT) Initiative — bringing together the state’s sustainability and education leaders across academia, industry, and government to help communities in Massachusetts. The Initiative aims to provide data analytics for an equitable energy transition, support the development of a diverse skilled workforce for networked geothermal, offshore wind, and other technologies, and enhance municipal capacity to pursue energy transition projects.

Massachusetts State Agencies & Municipalities

CELT offers strategic data support to state agencies and municipalities for the clean energy transition.

State Agencies
At the state level, CELT collaborates with teams in different agencies on relevant data projects, including Holistic Land Use (HoLUS) and Environmental Justice. It offers data support to the Office of Energy Transformation and provides benchmarks on additional state-wide data processes for environmental and energy projects in Massachusetts. The CELT team also identifies data needs for policy-making processes within the state government, and provides existing datasets and maps for specific projects.

Municipalities
For municipalities, CELT supports the design and implementation efforts of clean energy solutions at the local level, identifying data needs and organizing workshops on data resources for local governments to discuss best practices and challenges at the municipal level. CELT also collaborates with the Green Communities Division on specific data projects and supports cities and towns in their applications to Climate Leaders, Green Communities, and the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness program.

University & College Students

Student engagement is another big component of CELT, training the next generation of sustainability leaders while providing additional resources through fellowship opportunities for Massachusetts students.
