CELT Student Opportunities

Through the Clean Energy and Environment Legacy Transition (CELT) Initiative, IGS partners with UMass Lowell’s Rist Institute for Sustainability and Energy, which leads recruitment for two student fellowship opportunities:

  1. Office of Energy Transformation (OET) Fellowship
    Places graduate students in the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs’ Office of Energy Transformation for 12 months to contribute directly to key initiatives and help shape the future of clean energy in Massachusetts.

  2. Municipal Fellowship
    Assigns undergraduate and graduate students to a municipality or regional municipal organization for six months to assist municipalities throughout Massachusetts in navigating the complexities of the energy transition effectively.

Upcoming Fellowship Opportunities
Passionate about clean energy? The Clean Energy & Environment Legacy Transition (CELT) Initiative is hiring students for its fourth cohort of Municipal Fellows and its third cohort of fellows at the Office of Energy Transformation.
Municipal fellows work with local governments across Massachusetts on sustainability projects, supporting areas such as research, project implementation, community outreach, data analytics, grant writing etc. As a Municipal Fellow, you will engage in policy work and community outreach​, and network with municipal and state leaders. The Municipal Fellowship is a six-months opportunity, starting January 2027.
The Office of Energy Transformation Fellowship, brings students to work at this state agency, dedicated to driving Massachusetts clean energy transition. The fellowship offers student the opportunity to gain real-world experience, through a 12-month placement, contributing to the OET’s key initiatives and helping to shape the future of clean energy. Start date is January 2027.
Both opportunities are open to students from any major and school statewide.
