Student Information

BU Human Physiology students are required to complete an approved, planned and supervised internship. Students complete their internship summer before Senior year or during the fall or spring semester of their Senior year. Students completing the internship abroad may complete in either Junior or Senior year either semester. Please see the Human Physiology Internship Manual for information on finding a site and completing the internship.

What is the Internship?

This is an opportunity for you to integrate classroom learned concepts to a working health care related setting. You will gain practical experience in a clinic, hospital, community or research institution.

Student requirements for completion of course (more details on this information and ll of the requirements are available on the Blackboard site during the semester in which you complete your internship) :

  • Students complete 140 hours of on-site internship experience (approximately 10-15 hours per week for 12-14 weeks)
  • Student receive a Pass/Fail for the internship course
  • Reflections about experience on site
  • Course assignments
  • Midpoint and Final reviews by site supervisor

How do I begin planning my Internship?

Decisions about your internship should be made to fit your academic and professional needs and interests. Consult with your Academic Faculty Advisor early to discuss class sequence or additional classes they might recommend to prepare you for your experience.

Registration

Based on guidance from your Faculty Academic Advisor, you may register for the Human Physiology Internship (course number HS410/412 for 4 credits only) in the Fall, Spring or Summer.

  • Review the Internship manual
  • We have an extensive network of partner sites but you may utilize your own network of peers, faculty and professional contacts. This includes reaching out to previous supervisors from internships or volunteer experiences you might have had.

What are the next steps?

  1. Register for HS410/412 (4 credits) for the appropriate semester
  2. Prepare your resume with the assistance of Center for Career Development
  3. Complete theInternship Interest Form
  4. Attend Internship Information Session. You will receive an email about the day and time after registration.
  5. Set up an individual meeting with Prof. Pesanelli at kellypesanelli.clickbook.net after the information session and interest form has been submitted to receive individual site recommendations.
