It was another great year of amazing photos shared by the BU community! 258 terriers (including students, faculty, staff, alumni, a retiree, and a participant in the MET evergreen program!) submitted 603 photos, taken in 92 countries, territories, island nations and Antarctica! The most photographed foreign lands where BU does not currently have a Study Abroad presence was India with 30 photos, Iceland with 13, and Canada with 11. Right here in the US, 27 States including the District of Columbia were photographed and California was the most photographed state after Massachusetts.
We are also happy to report photos were submitted from every college and school, including BU Virtual and BU Academy, numerous administrative offices and WBUR! Graduate students submitted 240 photos with Undergraduates close behind at 233. Thank you all for sharing your adventures, experiences, and global engagement through some truly incredible images. As always, there were so many more beautiful images than just the final 16 photos that we post as finalists on our website (it is always a difficult choice).
The drama this year for the first round of people’s choice voting was not a tie, like last year, but a system issue, which prevented us from opening the voting at Noon as promoted. IS&T was able to sort out the issue and by a little after 1:00 PM voting was open. Even with the email announcing voting was open not going out till 4:00 PM we still had 990 people voting in the first round (22 more than last year). The closest match up this year was separated by only 6 votes, so as always, EVERY VOTE COUNTS. With 654 votes cast in the final round of the People’s Choice, first and second place were separated by a mere 18 votes!
Without further ado, the winners are:
