We want to thank our two guest judges for their expertise and perspectives. Photojournalist and College of Communications Professor, Peter Smith, and Boston Red Sox Manager of Photography and BU Alum, Billie Weiss.

This year’s photo contest drew more than 700 amazing photo submissions from BU students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The annual contest showcased our community’s adventures across 70 countries and 21 U.S. states.

From landscapes, to portraits, to slices of city life, myriad scenes were captured both digitally and on film. Individuals participated from every BU school and college. Whether illustrating the thrill of studying abroad, the beauty of immersing yourself in another culture, or the tranquility of a far-flung excursion, our community showed the best of humanity through their camera lens.

Our BU community covered the globe – and each of the following regions received multiple submissions per country:

  • Photos were taken in 22 different countries in Europe
  • Asia and South America each had 16 countries represented
  • North America had photos from six countries
  • Africa had five countries
  • The Middle East had three countries
  • Oceania had two countries

This year, we had two themes. Theme one showed beautiful photos of global experiences, anywhere on the planet, including Boston. Theme two was “I AM GLOBAL BU,” showing photos of individuals in BU gear while pursuing different activities, anywhere on the planet, including Boston. Below are the two winners in both themes.
