Ever wonder why the lid on your Starbucks’ cup of coffee has a label that reads: “Caution: Contents are hot”? Have you ever wondered why there are so few diving boards in U.S. aquatic venues or why so many medical tests are ordered in the U.S. as compared with other countries?
We will seek to analyze these issues in a lively and compelling discussion. We will watch a short TED Talk video addressing “4 Ways to Fix a Broken Legal System” presented by Philip K. Howard. In this thought-provoking and compelling talk, Howard, a lawyer himself, addresses the impact of a culture seemingly paralyzed by a fear of potential litigation and analyzes four fundamental propositions for simplifying U.S. law.
Following the video, we will discuss the state of legal reform in the U.S. and highlight comparisons and contrasts between U.S. laws and the legal systems of other countries
