Excel Robotics
Michael was immensely involved with the development of a sustainable robotics team for the school. With the generous support of the Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation, the “Excel Robotics” team participated as rookies in this year's USFIRST robotics competition. The competition, a regional event comprised of 44 high school teams in the Boston area (there are 2000 teams nationwide), allows teams 6 weeks from the announcement date of the competition game to design and build a robot to participate in the game. Coined by the team with the name “Ol’ Dirty Bot,” the team’s robot performed well placing 33rd.
Robotics Team Activities
MIT Bot-Bowl – students designed a robot using LEGO Mindstorm kits to follow a line and “bowl” a tennis ball at empty soda bottle “pins.” Students competed in a informal robotics competition at MIT and came in 3rd place among high school teams.
2006 US FIRST robotics competition – As rookie team #1779, we designed and built a 120 pound robot to compete in this year’s competition. We placed 33 out of 44 teams.
