The Bridgeway Group Summer 2012 Internship: Field Program Evaluation: Application due March 30th

March 15th, 2012 in Practicums/Internships

In the summer of 2012, the Bridgeway Group is offering a unique internship opportunity, evaluating one of its field programs in Africa. The 2012 Summer Intern will be responsible for the design and implementation of an evaluation of the Policy Armories Construction Project in Bujumbura, Burundi.

Since 2003, members of the Bridgeway Group staff have been working on conflict mitigation and prevention efforts in Burundi. Most recently, the Bridgeway Group, in partnership with a Burundian NGO, Ikibiri Coalition, completed the Police Armories Construction Project in Bujumbura.  The project's objectives included the construction of 38 secure weapons armories for the national police in six of Bujumbura's troubled neighborhoods and the development of a conflict resolution training program for both police and community members.

At the close of the two-year program, the Ikibiri Coalition/Bridgeway Group team accomplished the following goals: 38 armories were constructed in six neighborhoods; 76 easy-to-read notice boards on how to contact the police for assistance were erected; over 40 training programs were implemented; and a large public awareness campaign and celebration was organized to handover the armories to the Burundian National Police Chief.  With the objective of understanding the long-term impacts (if any) of combining development and conflict resolution training, the Intern will design and implement an evaluation of this project.

There is a small stipend associated with the internship, however the Intern will be responsible for his/her own transportation and living expenses for the duration of the internship.  Applicants with access to funding are highly encouraged to apply.  The Bridgeway Group staff will assist the Intern in designing the evaluation, accessing necessary resources in Cambridge and Burundi, finding housing, and working with the Ikibiri Coalition to provide office space for the Intern in Bujumbura for the duration of his/her stay.
