Core Course Tutors Needed!

The BUSPH Core Course Tutoring Program is currently recruiting tutors for the spring semester.  The Core Course Tutoring Program is designed to provide free tutoring in the MPH core courses for MPH students. Tutors are needed for all core courses and may be from any concentration and any degree program. Tutors are BUSPH students who excelled in the core course they would like to tutor (earned an A- or A in the course) and can provide at least two hours per week of tutoring.

Peer Coaches Needed!

Peer Coaches provide one-on-one assistance to SPH degree candidates for writing and/or presentation appointments. Peer Coaches are BUSPH students who: excel in communication as demonstrated by an A or A- on two or more writing assignments or presentations at BUSPH, possess strong communication skills, and can provide between three and six hours per week of peer coaching.

Teaching Fellow needed for HS 440, “Qualitative Research Strategies in Global Public Health”,

Seeking a qualified Teaching Fellow for HS 440, "Qualitative Research Strategies in Global Public Health", which meets on Wednesdays from 1-4PM on the Charles River campus (CAS 324). The ideal candidate would have some experience employing qualitative methods in health settings or would be otherwise knowledgeable of relevant methods and methodologies. Required duties include attending course sessions, grading, facilitating discussions, holding office hours, and assisting with other logistical aspects of the course, including responding to student emails, managing the course website, and liaising with the library as necessary.

Population Action International (PAI), a leading advocate for family planning and reproductive health in the developing world, seeks a Development Coordinator to work in PAI’s Resources Development department.

PAI advocates for women and families to have access to contraception in order to improve their health, reduce poverty and protect their environment. Guided by its strategic plan, PAI is in a period of exciting organizational advancement and growth. Over the next several years, PAI expects to focus its international efforts in a series of priority countries in the developing world, as well pursue new opportunities with donor governments that support international reproductive health and rights. Position Description: Under the supervision of the Vice President of Development, the Development Coordinator supports general fundraising and development activities at PAI. The Development Coordinator is responsible for work that includes maintaining donor records, conducting donor research, supporting events, donor acknowledgments and other administrative duties. S/he is responsible for the management and accuracy of the organization’s data as it pertains to the program as well as interfacing with other departments such as finance and executive to ensure streamlined and effective processes. This position also supports the Vice President of Development as necessary.

Qualifications:
• Passion for PAI’s mission, and for working in an organization during a period of change and growth.
• Knowledge of international reproductive health and rights, and the related donor community, a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in related field and 3+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience working with Microsoft office suite; high level of comfort working with online applications. Working knowledge and understanding of donor databases is preferred.
• Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently, as well as part of a highly interactive team.

Medicines for Humanity (MFH) is a small, dynamic organization with a compelling mission to reduce child mortality in impoverished communities around the world.  Headquartered in Rockland, MA, MFH has maternal and child health projects in 7 countries. MFH seeks to achieve this goal by strengthening the capacity of local implementing partners in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Priority programmatic areas of intervention include newborn and child health, nutrition, water and sanitation, HIV prevention, vaccination against childhood diseases, and strengthening community health systems.

Job Summary:

The Program Manager is responsible for the overall planning, management, and coordination of health programming in Latin America and the Caribbean, specifically in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Guyana and Guatemala. MFH Central/South American portfolio currently includes eleven projects with a potential for growth. The projects offer an opportunity for someone with a health background and strong language (Creole or Spanish or both) skills to provide technical oversight and overall management of these projects. The overall responsibilities include:

-Assure the effectiveness of all MFH programs and activities.
-Lead, develop, and direct program implementation.
-Identify and follow-up on opportunities for growth.
-Manage program-related activities including external project partnerships that promote and support   MFH’s mission.
-Represent MFH at Core Group, with Ministries of Health

Job Requirements (Preferred Education, Skills and Experience):

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, International Development, or related field
  • 2 years international experience
  • 3 years direct work experience in program leadership in a nonprofit
  • Experience in preparing budgets and program plans
  • Experience in supervision of staff
  • Strong written and oral communication skills/interpersonal skills
  • Strong Haitian Creole or Spanish speaking and writing skills (a plus to be proficient in both)

Program Direction

  1. Collaborate with Program Director in guiding organization to fulfill its service mission.
  2. Develop best practices and tools for project services and interventions that reduce child mortality.
  3. Collaborate with PS Director in developing and providing input into a structure for decisions re current projects (change/expand/transition) and new projects (go/ no go)…
  4. Work with PS Director to Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within PS team and between PS and other MFH departments.
  5. Direct and manage MFH Program Service projects in LAC; work with LAC coordinators and in-country healthcare partners to define project scope, goals, budget and deliverables; supervise the preparation of annual plans and budgets for LAC projects.

Program Monitoring and Reporting

  1. Work with PS Director to set Monitoring and Evaluation standards and practices for MFH.
  2. Provide leadership in continually manage project expectations with coordinators, partners and stakeholders.
  3. Meet quarterly with LAC partners and coordinators to review progress to project goals, troubleshoot any issues, and set next steps.
  4. Collaborate with PS Director in overseeing the annual evaluation and planning process for existing and new MFH programs.
  5. Collaborate with the Development department in providing reports needed for donors for LAC.

Program Growth

  1. Identify, cultivate and secure strategic funding opportunities with foundations, agencies, and NGO’s with particular emphasis on LAC.
  2. Build relationships vital to the success of each project.
  3. Lead the development of project proposals for funding LAC projects.
  4. Identify general opportunities for partnership with child survival organizations, or academic organizations with the potential to improve program quality or growth.
  5. Identify and gather useful resources related to MCH and child survival for Program Services
  6. Develop a plan to organize these resources for use in project planning, proposals and reports.

Budgeting and Planning

  1. Collaborate with PS Director in PS budget and operational plan preparation, and in monitoring and reporting progress vs. pan/budget.
  2. Participate in MFH Strategic Plan development and implementation.

Position Requirements: Qualifications for the position include:

  • Master’s degree in behavioral sciences, development, social sciences, statistics, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience); or
  • Experience in evaluation design, preferably experience with quantitative and qualitative methods, and ability to strike balance between rigor and feasibility of implementation
  • Knowledge of survey research methods and experience designing and directing data collection efforts in the development context
  • Field experience in international development data collection and research, with a focus on impact evaluations (Latin America and the Caribbean strongly preferred)
  • Experience working closely with local stakeholders, implementers, and local data collection firms, and collaborating and communicating effectively with a wide range of professionals and cultures
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience developing and administering early grade reading (EGRA) assessment measures strongly preferred
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Spanish fluency required

They are based in Rwanda, with an office in Boston, and their core program works to integrate agricultural support and comprehensive health education into the clinical treatment of malnutrition. They currently work in partnership with 18 health centers in two districts of Rwanda.
