2016 Mandela Washington Fellowship – a great opportunity for African students
The application for the 2016 Mandela Washington Fellowship is open now through November 11. The program will bring 1,000 young Africans ages 25-35 to the U.S. next summer for six weeks of leadership training at U.S. universities. The U.S.-based portion of the program culminates with a summit here in D.C. attended by President Obama. After the academic program and summit, Fellows are able to access opportunities such as professional internship experiences in the U.S. and Africa, mentoring, travel grants to speak at conferences, and regional networking events. The attached flyers and this video provide more information.
Additionally, applications are currently open for training at our YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa, located at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya. YALI RLCs provide leadership training and networking opportunities, similar to the Fellowship, but at a regional level, and are open to participants ages 18-35. The RLC East Africa accepts applicants from 14 Central and East African countries. You can find more information about the program and eligibility at yalieastafrica.org.

Dr. Paul Farmer, a medical anthropologist and cofounder of the global health organization Partners in Health, will be the featured speaker at the 25th Anniversary Stanley Stone Lecture Series. Farmer will speak about the current state of global health. Free and open to the public.
CAHMI is seeking a full-time Technical Research Assistant
CAHMI is seeking a full-time Technical Research Assistant. The Technical Research Assistant will participate in development, management, and maintenance of multiple websites designed to disseminate and present survey data and user-generated reports. They will assist with management of data on the CAHMI’s main websites through multiple databases and routinely prepare data for reports and displays. They will also visualize how to set-up 879 complex SQL querying features and back-end databases to support new data projects. The ideal candidate is passionate about public health data, has a desire to learn and grow in the field of displaying and translating this information, and has an interest in health information technology.
Key tasks include: SQL database management, report generation for CAHMI research projects, website design coordination, statistical analysis, project management, and other research activities as needed.
Although this position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or its equivalent, we highly prefer a candidate with a Master’s degree. A minimum of 3 years related work experience is also required. We also prefer candidates with experience designing and conducting online surveys or presenting data through dynamic web-based media. ASP.NET experience is also desirable, as is experience with designing and managing websites.

The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting—a collaboration between BU’s School of Public Health, Center for Global Health and Development and College of Communication—has hosted Student Fellows from Boston University since 2011. Students have reported from Nepal, Haiti, Mali, Zanzibar, Myanmar, Turkey, Uganda, Malawi and this winter from Cuba. The fellowships are a centerpiece of BU’s Program on Crisis Response and Reporting, which examines the intersection of journalism and public health at times of crisis.

Boston Alliance for Community Health (BACH) is a city-wide partnership of neighborhood coalitions and over 50 community-based partners, (one of which is BU School of Social Work) working to make Boston a healthier and a more equitable place.
Every month BACH puts on a free meeting/workshop aimed at addressing prevalent public health topic. This month's focus is Women's Health and will take place at the Charlestown HealthCare Center on Thursday October 22nd from 6-8 pm. This meeting, facilitated by ABCD Health Services’ Sister 2 Sister program, will offer an overview of issues affecting young and adult women’s sexual health.
