A note from our current student Tej Mishra on ways to support The Refugee Center
I am a MPH student at BUSPH. I am Bhutanese by birth and lived in Nepal as a Refugee for 19 years and came to the US in 2010. I have been enrolled at BU since the fall of 2011. I am graduating fro the MPH program in January 2014. I currently work at Harvard School of Public Health. I started volunteering at the RCO as a board member since Fall 2012 and I am still an active board member.
To give a little background, The Refugee Center Online is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to facilitate successful refugee resettlement transitions by providing educational opportunities, access to resources, community building, and one-on-one mentoring to refugees in the US. All members at RCO work voluntarily.
The Refugee Center Online (RCO) is launching its first e-Auction. The e-auction starts 16th Nov and ends on the 23rd. We are doing this through ebay. The e-Auction features a variety of unique and fun items, such as refugee artwork, tickets to entertainment shows, gift cards to stores throughout the country and more! The e-Auction is the perfect way to support RCO because it helps you get a jump-start on your holiday shopping and supports this wonderful cause at the same time.

A message from alum Sera Bonds, founder of Circle of Health International, regarding aid in the Philippines
As you know, a massive storm has left millions homeless and possibly tens of thousands dead in the Philippines. COHI is responding, this will be our 13th emergency response, and we'd like to solicit your support in spreading the word. Mamas and babies, as we all know, are in a lot of danger right now, and COHI is responding to their needs.

Donations are needed, we are maintaining our commitment to bringing green and environmentally responsible supplies in country, and purchasing as much locally as we can to support the local economy.
COHI is also taking CV's and letters of interest for midwives, nurses, physicians, trauma specialists, public health professionals, and documentarians, interested in joining a team heading to the region. Students with relevant experience will be considered. We are not yet sure we will send a team, we are communicating locally in order to meet a need, we don't want to future overwhelm the local responders. In the meantime we will start interviewing.

With the support of generous corporate and financial donors, AmeriCares largest program, Global Medical Assistance, provides medicines, medical supplies and other relief on an ongoing basis to hospitals, clinics and community health programs in over 40 countries, including the United States. The program helps our health care partners deliver quality care by providing aid to fill critical resource gaps, including essential products that are unavailable or financially inaccessible.
The Manager develops, nurtures and manages AmeriCares relationship with these partner organizations in the following countries: Ghana, DRC, Senegal, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Liberia. She/he will develop an in-depth understanding of the needs and conditions of their assigned countries, prepare long term and annual plans and play an active leading role in determining the numbers and contents of shipments as well as targeted initiatives and capacity building projects. Additionally, the manager plays an important role in the oversight and management of the portfolios on-going program and project initiatives and contributes to new program and project development activities.
The role also provides administrative and logistic support to Partners and conducts research activities as assigned by the Regional Director. Research includes gaining insight into local health priorities and regulatory issues and developing an understanding of the initiatives of other health oriented organizations. Administrative activities may include tracking shipments and maintaining program records of historical partner information and current activities. The Manager ensures that required reporting materials are sent to and received from partners and solicits additional feedback on shipments and needs. |

Job Description
The School of Public Health at BU has an administrative assistant position opening. The employee will divide their time (50% each position) between the following two positions.
· Administrative Assistant to the Associate Dean for Research (ADR) at BU-SPH duties include support for the ADR scheduling meetings, assist in the organization of special events, interacting with all levels of the school leadership, writing meeting minutes, supporting committees activities, monitoring pilot funding, general administrative duties, telephone and email communication with committee members, and other activities as assigned by the Associate Dean. Excellent interpersonal skills, communication and organizational abilities, attention to detail, time management/prioritization skills and initiative are required for this position.
· Administrative Assistant to the Department of Environmental Health (EH) at the BU-SPH duties include administrative support for faculty and staff within the EH department, process invoices/disbursements/purchases for the department, assist in financial activities as required (including batching), answering telephones, scheduling of conference room and other activities as assigned by ADR. The position reports to the Associate Dean for Research. The candidate should have a BA/BS and one to two years’ experience in an office or academic setting.
