Description:
Vecna Cares, the non-profit arm of Vecna (www.vecnacares.org), provides technology and training to support and strengthen health systems in under-served areas for better health outcomes. We deploy hardware and software solutions worldwide (Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Haiti, US, etc.). We are seeking a volunteer Analytics and Data Visualization intern to work with our team to develop and refine the systems and tools we use for analysis and data visualization. You will collaborate with our teams in Cambridge, Kenya, Nigeria, and around the world to use R to distill large datasets down into easily digestible analysis and visualizations. The work that the Analytics and Data Visualization intern does will be consumed by our internal teams, public health policy makers, and healthcare workers around the world. Additionally, you will be responsible for surfacing key health-related insights from the data. Opportunities for publication of the work will also be available. This is a part time, unpaid internship.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Vecna Cares team to understand the needs of the organization and their clients as they relate to data analysis and visualization.
- Develop and refine system to analyze large sets of health related data to calculate key performance indicators and summarize information.
- Develop and refine system to visualize health-related data for use by operational managers, public health policy makers, and healthcare workers.
- Build and document sustainable R based system for data analysis and visualization that can be scaled across multiple projects.
Requirements:
- High level of proficiency in R programming.
- Ability to spend 10-20 hours per week working autonomously on various projects, including at least 2 hours in the Cambridge, MA office.
- Commitment of at least 3 months.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze large datasets and create compelling visuals.
- Strong problem solving skills, creativity, a positive attitude, and an enthusiasm for new ideas.
- Excellent visual and verbal communication skills.
