What is "evidence"?

After explaining to Mrs. Parker about the regulation of HDS in the United States, the various types of HDS available, and how quality is regulated, she seems more at ease about using HDS. However, she turns to you and asks, "Well, could you recommend something for my hot flashes and osteoporosis prevention? It sounds like there are some great things out there for my needs."

As her medical provider, how would you go about looking for herbs and dietary supplements for Mrs. Parker and other patients of yours?

Before we begin exploring how to identify evidence-based and safe HDS for our patients, let us first understand what exactly is "evidence".
